Fire damages popular local meat market

KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) Fire early Wednesday damaged the rear of a popular Killeen meat market and left the business without power.

The broke out at around 3 a.m. Wednesday at Cosper’s Country Meat Market at 2300 East Elms Rd.

Owner Paul Young said it appears embers from a smoker dropped into some grease, igniting the fire.

The interior of the store was not damaged, but the business will remain closed until power and utility service are restored.

“Due to a fire in the back, we are closed until we get the green light to open,” a sign taped to the front door of the meat market said.

Because of the loss of power, meat in the market’s coolers can’t be sold, but Young gave some of it to firefighters after the blaze was extinguished.

No one was hurt.
