Smithfield Foods invests $1.2m to expand Kentucky meat factory

Smithfield Foods has announced that it will invest $1.2 million to expand its meat production facility in Grayson, Kentucky.

The Grayson facility produces a wide range of sliced hams for the company’s Smithfield brand, and the company says that the expansion will increase production capacity at the site by approximately 20%.

This expansion will create an additional 40 jobs at the site, which have been made necessary by the growing operational needs of the facility.

The facility currently employs 570 people from Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia.

Jeff Salyer, Grayson plant manager for Smithfield Foods Inc said: “In the last several years, our growth has allowed us to invest in our facilities and create new opportunities for those living in the communities we call home.

“We are proud to invest in Grayson and look forward to welcoming new members of the Smithfield Family at this facility, which helps put holiday hams and other mealtime favourites on millions of tables each year.”
