Restaurant inspections: Raw meat stored in trash bags among violations

Get details on restaurants cited by Maricopa County inspectors for four or more priority violations the week of March 19. 

A priority violation is a major violation that directly contributes to increasing the risk of food-borne illness or injury. If listed in the reports, remedies implemented during inspections are included.

At bottom, see a sampling of the many restaurants graded as an A for no violations.

5 violations

Mekong Plaza Grocery Store, 6 S. Dobson Road, Suite 132, Mesa.

  1. Employee handled trash then raw pork without washing hands. Employee washed hands for 20 seconds. Repeat violation.
  2. Raw chicken stored above raw pork and raw chicken stored above raw beef in refrigerator. Items rearranged. Second consecutive violation.
  3. Raw pork stored on racks with visible dried food debris. Pork removed. 
  4. Employee cleaned cutting board by placing in sanitizer for less than 10 seconds. Employee re-sanitized.
  5. Black trash bags used to store raw beef and pork. Items moved to proper containers. 

AA Ozzy Bakery, 401 W. Clarendon Ave., Phoenix.

  1. Employee handled food without washing hands. Employee washed hands for 20 seconds.
  2. Raw shelled eggs stored above milk, butter and various fillings. Eggs moved.
  3. Cooked pork buns, meat buns and chicken expired. Items discarded.
  4. Unpackaged pastries displayed in retail area. Moved to proper storage area.
  5. To-go plastic bags used to store raw pork. Moved to proper containers.

4 violations

Chicago Cubs Spring Training Complex at Mesa Riverview, 2330 W. Rio Salado Parkway, Mesa.

  1. Multiple employees washed hands for less than 10 seconds. All employees rewashed hands for the proper 20 seconds.
  2. Employee touched hat and face and then began handling hot dog buns without washing hands. Employee washed hands.
  3. Chlorine sanitizer below proper concentration. Restored to proper levels.
  4. Cut lettuce, cut tomato and cole slaw held at improper temperature. Discarded.

Haiku Tokyo, 2224 E. Williams Field Road, Suite 108, Gilbert.

  1. Raw fish stored above ready-to-eat foods. Items rearranged.
  2. Hard-boiled eggs and cooked beef held at improper temperature. Reheated.
  3. Raw chicken and chicken nuggets held at improper temperature. Discarded.
  4. Hazardous chemicals stored with food. Food moved.

Golden Bakery, 2126 E. Apache Blvd., Tempe.

  1. Chopped tomatoes held at improper temperature. Discarded.
  2. Meats held at improper temperature. Meats reheated. Chicken rolls, meat pie and meat and cheese pie held at improper temperature. Discarded.
  3. Chopped salsa, cooked vegetable blend and cooked meat blend expired. Discarded. Second consecutive violation.
  4. Hose with Y-valve beneath the flood rim. Hose was fitted with a pressure spray. Y-valve removed.

Lahori's Dhaba, 912 N. Alma School Road, Chandler.

  1. Pans of meat and sauce held at improper temperature. Moved to refrigerator to properly thaw.
  2. Roach tracking powder applied along walls in kitchen. Powder removed.
  3. Spray bottle stored on prep table. Manager moved to proper storage.
  4. Scallions and raw meat stored in plastic grocery bags. Items transferred to proper containers.
